Protest at Gov. Cuomo’s NYC Office: Pass #LessIsMoreNY Now!

Community groups, family members of incarcerated people and a brass band convene outside of Gov. Cuomo’s NYC office to demand passage of the #LessIsMoreNY Act.

On Monday, we organized a protest outside of Governor Cuomo’s NYC office, demanding passage of #LessIsMoreNY. Dozens of constituents - including individuals on parole, and community groups - gathered for the protest. Throughout the protest, constituents spoke about Governor Cuomo and the legislature’s outrageous reluctance to reform the parole system and end the senseless practice of incarcerating New Yorker’s for technical violations of parole, especially during COVID-19.

The action follows a new study released last week by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) that advises policymakers, corrections leaders, and public health officials to ramp up decarceration efforts in order to mitigate the continuing threat of COVID-19. The report amplifies the calls by community groups across the state for Cuomo to take urgent action to save lives in the face of COVID-19. In the face of COVID-19, Cuomo has largely ignored the health and well being of his incarcerated constituents and their loved ones, leaving them to suffer.
